My dad had this idea in the late 1980's, and this is the prototype he created to secure the copyright to it. This is a hand-painted trophy style lamp that is meant to display a baseball card on. His idea was to display a baseball card of your favorite player batting, while also doubling as a nightlight with the ball shining into the web of the glove and onto a framed picture of the player in a fielding position. My dad chose Mr. Brett for his detailed example. None of these were ever sold and the molds are long gone. This is museum quality artwork from a stalled business attempt a short lifetime ago. For me to find such a personal card like this over three decades later will always be astonishing to me. This story goes well beyond coincidence and tells me that God wanted this to be the best baseball card ever.
Over the years, there have been a few different cards on it, and not even a perfect Topps rookie card can deliver the WOW! factor this card brings with it. From the Rawlings logo to the style of lettering used for the Flawless logo, it's pretty hard to argue that this isn't the best-looking baseball card ever presented. It's like nothing ever seen before in the hobby or the art world and combines both brilliantly. It has been well taken care of through the years and is in excellent condition. Once home to a mass-produced 80's card; it's now the home of a One of One baseball card on steroids. There's about 30 years between these two and it's a match made in Heaven. Not only is this the best George Brett card ever made, it's the best baseball card ever made. No card has ever made an impact like this one did.
Never in history has there been a baseball card that was truly compelling and ironic enough to be crowned "the best baseball card ever" until this majestic anomaly entered the game. Meet The Best Baseball Card Ever - a modern work of art and the best baseball card ever displayed.
Flawless best describes how this 2018 Panini Flawless baseball card completed this 1989 George Brett prototype trophy and proved itself as the best baseball card ever made. It literally looks like he blasted the ball straight out of the card as the fielding hall of famer ironically watches the play unfold from above. You can smell the tobacco on his breath, and he probably even wiped his mouth on that part of his jersey. This card was already three or four years old when I found it and could've ended up anywhere - forgotten about. Instead, it ended up here; perfectly completing this meticulously crafted sculpture from over three decades ago and starting a one-of-a-kind baseball card spectacle.
Fast-forward four and five months respectively, I found the 2019 and 2020 versions of this card that captures his entire swing! All three are the One of One parallels of those cards and that makes this the worlds first unplanned Three of One baseball card trilogy! The 2018-19 cards are black with very fine details, and the 2020 is platinum blue that is right on point with the George Brett glove. It just doesn't get any more convincing than this. That platinum blue inspired me to create an even bigger scene with more One of One Panini Flawless baseball players, starting with that badass Honus Wagner platinum diamond gem card. The king of the cards in books meets the best baseball card ever for looks.
If you were searching for the best baseball card ever, you found it. You also found a modern work of art and a baseball card collection that's second to none. After finding those two additional George Brett cards, I knew this needed a home of its own and more players around it. 2022 Panini Flawless Baseball was just starting to be released and proved to be a solid lineup of players to build around. It took three years to find these players, and it doesn't take long to see what's going here. The two best teams slugging it out in the bleachers with your best baseball card ever in the center. A One of One platinum bat knob card of Pittsburgh's Paul Waner adds another artistic dimension. This collection is distant and in its own arena as the best Panini Flawless collection there will ever be.
The players ironically mirror one another in this all One of One game from the bleachers. The great Bo Jackson and Juan Soto sign off on the starting lineups, as Bo bats cleanup for the blue team and Juan the red. This explosive scene features four One of a Kind multiple gem cards: rubies (Mike Trout), sapphires (Joe DiMaggio) and diamonds (Lou Gehrig, Ken Griffey Jr.). The rest of the starting line-ups are: Jackie Robinson, Aaron Judge, Mel Ott, Alek Thomas (R), Ted Williams, Roger Maris and Babe Ruth on one team; with Mickey Mantle, Shohei Ohtani, Honus Wagner, Bobby Witt Jr. (R), Roberto Clemente, Ryne Sandberg and Tony Gwynn on the other side. Three Flawless strike zone cards take center stage with all-time strikeout leader Nolan Ryan bringing some gem mint heat to the plate.
All of the cards and their cases are at least near mint or better without any noticeable marks or scratches. In fact, I sent a couple cards back to Panini for replacement and another for a chipped case. Not all Panini Flawless baseball cards come sealed with that security sticker on the top either, so I had to use cases from other sealed parallels for cards like Bo and Rocket that didn't come that way new. The cards are normally kept in clear protective bags and the bags are changed every time the cards are taken out. I only use these Ultra-PRO resealable bags and think they make the best baseball card products ever offered to collectors. They add a nice touch while protecting the cases from dust and fingerprints. The gallery below shows the sealed Honus Wagner diamond gem in one.
